Schrimsher earns NBCT license
Oakwood resident and special education teacher, Robyn Schrimsher, recently attained National Board Certification in Teaching (NBCT) for 2008. National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to recognize and reward accomplished teachers. While state licensing systems set basic requirements to teach in each state, NBCTs have successfully demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices.
Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete. As part of the process, teachers build a portfolio that includes student work samples, assignments, video recordings and a thorough analysis of their classroom teaching. Additionally, teachers are assessed on their area of instruction at an assessment center.
As an educator for multiple disabilities students, Ms. Schrimsher has taught for
Montgomery County Educational Service Center for the last 16 years and currently instructs middle school students at Esther Dennis Middle School in the Northridge district. In 2008, she completed her graduate studies in Curriculum and Supervision from Wright State University. Ms. Schrimsher is one of more than 2,900 Ohio educators who have achieved National Board Certification since the programs inception in 1987.
