Summer school enrollments underway
Oakwood Junior and Senior High School will offer summer school classes beginning Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Summer school packets will be available to students beginning Tuesday, March 10 in the Senior High Office, the Senior High Guidance Office, the Junior High Office, and the Senior High Book. Priority sign-ups for current tenth and eleventh graders will be on Thursday, March 12 at 8 a.m., and open enrollment will begin on Monday, March 16 at 8 a.m. A completed registration form with parent signature as well as full tuition and any fees for all classes must be paid in the form of cash or check at the time of registration. Registration will take place in the Senior High Bookroom. For more information please call 297-5325.
OHS academic awards program rescheduled
The Class of 2009 Academic Awards and Recognition Program originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 has been moved to Wednesday, May 27 due to a scheduling conflict. This program will be held at the University of Dayton’s Kennedy Union Ballroom. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. This special evening is designed to recognize the scholarship and leadership accomplishments of this class. Our yearly honor roll, local scholarships, valedictorian, salutatorian, and “best in class” awards will be presented.
Teacher essay contest accepting entries
Breads of the World, local franchisee for Panera Bread in southwestern Ohio, is pleased to announce the fourth annual Rising Above student essay contest, which will run from March 1 – March 31. To participate, students must submit an essay about why his or her teacher deserves to be honored with the Panera Rising Above Award, and the winning essays will be announced during National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs May 3 – May 9, 2009.
To nominate a teacher, participants must submit a 100 to 200-word essay at a local Panera bakery-cafe, via email or through the mail. Entry forms are available at all 10 Panera Bread bakery-cafes located throughout the Dayton metro-area, as well as online at www.Panera-Ohio.com. Three Grand Prize winners will be announced during National Teacher Appreciation Week. Winning teachers and their schools will be awarded grants, Panera gift cards and a variety of other prizes. The student winner in each category will win a Nintendo DS and the memory game BrainAge.
OHS Speech and Debate Flower Sale starts
Soon spring will spring and what a better way to welcome it than with flowers? Oakwood High School Speech and Debate will be selling beautiful flowers beginning on March 9. Along with colorful geraniums, begonias, and impatiens, we will be selling wave petunias and patio tomatoes. All plants will be delivered to your home on May 6.
This is the teams major fundraiser and with 21 students competing at state and seven competing at nationals, your support is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please call Maria at 299-3422.
