A meeting of Friends of Wright Library will take place Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. The agenda includes voting on bylaws and constitution for the organization, voting on a slate of officers, adopting a mission statement and appointing standing committee chairs for advocacy, membership, program, publicity and volunteers.
Plans for a membership drive and activities for the first year of this new organization will be discussed. Oakwood residents who want to promote use of the library and foster public support for library services are especially invited to attend this meeting. Friends of the library won’t all think alike; their commonality will be that they value the services Wright Library provides to the Oakwood community.
Starting on Feb. 2 and ending on April 14, Wright Library will continue its “Folktales Around the World” series for homeschoolers grades 1-6, held on consecutive Mondays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Activities including folktales being read to the group, a craft, and a snack based on 11 different countries including China, Mongolia, Canada, Argentina, Iceland, India, Sweden, Kenya, Ireland, Morocco, and Mexico. Books related to that day’s topic will be available for check-out. Children do not need to live in Oakwood to participate, and parents are welcome to stay. All programs will meet in the Library Meeting Room.
Wright Library will offer a Cooking and Crafts program for “tweens” grades 5-8 starting on Tuesday, February 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and continuing on consecutive Tuesdays through March 31. We will cook one week and make arts or crafts the next week. Projects include making valentines, sugar skulls, cheesecake, Mardi Gras masks, paper airplanes, candy sushi, and more!
