The Oakwood High School Marching Band will perform at a community concert hosted by Oakwood Booster John Gray on Friday Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. The annual concert is a fall season-opener, at John Gray’s estate, The Farm, at 1911 Ridgeway Road in Oakwood.
Under the direction of Ron Nelson, the band will perform selections from the upcoming marching band season. “The concert is our annual preview of the fall highlights,” says Mr. Nelson, “After a week of hard work at the pre-season band camp, we are ready to show our stuff.” The performance is at The Farm’s outdoor amphitheater. Refreshments and dessert after the concert are provided by the Oakwood Band Parents Association. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating.

The Oakwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee would like to invite the public to the First Annual Oakwood Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet to be held Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Dayton Country Club (jacket/no denim) beginning at 6 p.m.
Cost for the event is $30 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. Social hours begins at 6 p.m. with heavy hors d’ouvres; program begins at 7:15 pm. To purchase tickets for the event, please send a check made payable to Oakwood Athletic Boosters, and mail to Oakwood Athletic Hall of Fame, 1200 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45419 by Aug. 1, 2008. Attendees will not receive a ticket in the mail; check in begins at 5:45 p.m. at the Dayton Country Club. Don’t miss our end of Summer Reading party on Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m. Celebrate your Summer Reading success with special activities and buggy refreshments based on insect characters from popular children’s books. Dress as your favorite mini-beast! Live bug displays will be raffled off.
All participants in the SRC program are invited. The party will be held outside on the Library’s north lawn. In case of rain, we will meet in the Library’s Meeting Room. No registration is required.
On Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., Wright Library will show the hilarious 1955 film “The Court Jester.” The movie stars Danny Kaye as a hapless Robin Hood wannabe who stumbles his way into the court of the usurper of the crown. There, in the guise of a court jester, he becomes involved in a palace intrigue, a romance with a princess and a daring plot to enthrone the true heir. The film will be shown in the library meeting room.
The Grand Prize winner of the Adult Summer Reading Club will be announced at the program. No advance registration is necessary. Popcorn and drinks provided!
