Grapple Jacks win 2 more at dual meet

On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Oakwood Jacks varsity wrestling team traveled to Dixie High School for a double dual meet where they defeated Oxford Talawanda 42-30 and National Trail 48-36. Double winners for the night were Daniel Jacobs, Kevin Lee, Alex Kooser, Brandon Bustillo, and Jameson Kordik.  Single winners were Taylor Rhodes, Will LeBoeuf, Josh Hootman, Matt Suits, and Jake Horlacher.

Chris Klingensmith won an exhibition match. It was a very good night for Oakwood’s young team considering that their top wrestler, Paul Hochwalt, is sidelined with an injury. These dual meets were a good tune up for the next meet which is the Finneytown Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jills hoopsters seeded sixth

The Oakwood Jills dropped a tough game Saturday against rival Bellbrook 65-53. After falling behind 15 points at the half, the Jills came out in the third quarter and outscored their rivals 23-11 to cut the deficit to 3 (45-42) going into the decisive fourth quarter. It was in the fourth quarter that Bellbrook responded with a run of their own and eventually pulled away in the final minutes of the game. Cathryn Hardy led the Jills with 18 points and 14 rebounds to go along with five blocks.

Brittany Moore contributed 15 points including several key baskets during the third quarter. Sophomore Alex Miller threw in 11 points to go along with four rebounds and an assist. The loss drops the Jills to 8-10 with games remaining against Franklin and Waynesville at home.

The Jills have been seeded sixth in the sectional tournament and will play fifth seeded Ross on Feb. 8 at 7: 30 p.m.
